any one explain me the difference between uuid and guid in hibernate?

guid ------ guid is database dependent...some databases may support other may not (oracle supports guid) try this query SELECT SYS_GUID() FROM DUAL; it will show you a string which is not understandable to us (so not shareable) guid should use only for String(32 characters) as key because at database level it give only string as output...... uuid: ----- uuid is independent of databases because it is generator at hibernate level.... uuid work for String of 32 characters uuid not human readable so not sharable
